Westside gets cleaned up

by Theresa Garee

Combined efforts make for cleaner streets on the westside. Community members, Keep Columbus Beautiful and the Columbus Divison of Refuse all coordinate to keep the streets of west Columbus cleaned up.

A weekly trash pick up time is coordinated by Lisa Boggs via Facebook for a Friday time and meet up location. Keep Columbus Beautiful helps with supplies and the Columbus Division of Refuse coordinates pick-up of trash bags.

“It’s such a great partnership and we could not do what we do without them,” Boggs said.

The goal is for groups to adopt different areas along Sullivant Avenue to help maintain the streets. Surrounding organizations organize similar clean-up events, like Franklinton Development Association and HilltopUSA.

Some individuals join the clean up as representatives of organizations. Liv Harrington joins the clean up to share the organization, The Way to Happiness with others.

“A clean avenue is a much safer corridor,” said Boggs, who has hosted a weekly clean up since 2023.
