Columbus Police focus on streets with fatal crashes
From the Columbus Division of Police
The Columbus Division of Police, a Vision Zero Columbus partner, is launching monthly enforcement zones on city streets where high driver speeds and serious crashes have led to fatalities.
These focused enforcement efforts reflect the Division’s commitment to Vision Zero, an initiative aimed at achieving zero crash deaths on city streets by 2035.
Speed is a fundamental factor in fatal crashes, especially for vulnerable road users like people walking or biking who, if struck by a driver traveling 40 miles per hour or above, are less likely to survive.
This year to date, seven people have died in six crashes on these initial corridors of focus.
Beginning Aug.1, the Columbus Police Traffic Operations Unit, in conjunction with Patrol, focused on the following streets:
Morse Rd.
E. Broad St.
S. Hamilton Rd.
Refugee Rd.
W. Broad St.
N. High St.
The Vision Zero speed enforcement initiative is an effort to enhance the ongoing operations of the Columbus Division of Police. Speed enforcement is part of a multi-pronged approach among Vision Zero Columbus partners to make safety the top priority of the city’s transportation system.
